Former basketball coach responds to sex abuse claims

BANGOR (WGME) -- A legendary basketball coach removed from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame over sex abuse allegations claims his accusers are lying.

Ordman Alley, 72, also was supposed to be part of the inaugural class for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame this year, but he was removed after the allegations surfaced.

Alley coached at Jonesport-Beals High School in Washington County, winning nine state titles.

Two former female students accuse him of sexual abuse from decades ago.

Through his lawyer, he issued a statement strongly denying the claims, saying the incidents, “never occurred.”

Leaders of both the Maine Sports and Maine Basketball Halls of Fame declined to comment.
