International war criminal caught on Maine border
HOULTON (WGME) -- U.S. Border Patrol Agents say they arrested a wanted war criminal in Maine near the Canadian border recently.
On Sunday, A U.S. Border Patrol Agent from Houlton responded to a report of a suspicious person walking near the border. The agent found the person and border officials say the agent learned he crossed into the U.S. from Canada illegally.
Agents say they later learned the man, 42-year-old Jean Leonard Teganya of Rwanda, had an active Canada-wide warrant for removal from Canada for violating human or international rights under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act.
Teganya was turned over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's office of Enforcement and Removal Operations.
