Rescuer injured while trying to save a dog
PHIPPSBURG (WGME) -- A relaxing walk along the shore turns into a nightmare for a woman walking her dog in Phippsburg.
It all started with a woman walking with her dog along a cliff walk near the southern tip of Phippsburg.
The lab mix fell off the cliff walk and got caught on a ledge about halfway down the 40 foot drop.
The Phippsburg Volunteer Rescue Team was called in and one of the rescuers lowered himself by rope to the dog.
It was right at the end of Club Road.
He secured the dog and then tried to lower both him and the dog down to the rocky shore.
But the dog's owner says 12 feet from the bottom, the rope broke.
She says the rescuer fell onto his back, but held onto her dog.
The dog is fine.
The rescuer, whose name has not been confirmed, landed on some jagged rocks and was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center.
Witnesses say he was talking.
At this point there is no word from Maine Medical Center on his condition.
