Blue lobster found off Pine Point Beach

PORTLAND (WGME) -- A special lobster found off Pine Point is heading to its new home Tuesday.

14-year-old Meghan Laplante found a brilliant blue lobster this weekend with her dad. They run Miss Meghan's Lobster Catch out of their home in Old Orchard Beach.

Laplante says they were checking their traps Saturday when the bright blue crustacean stood out.

Right now the lobster, who she's named Skylar, is in a tank in their home. Tuesday afternoon, Laplante and her mom are taking it to the Maine State Aquarium where it will stay.

"Well, I didn't want anyone else to have it like to hurt it or cook it so we'll donate it so it doesn't get harmed and it can live," said Meghan.

Laplante's mom says after doing some research she found out the blue color is caused by genetics.

She also found the chances of catching a lobster like this is are about one in two million.
