Maine teacher charged with assaulting girlfriend

SKOWHEGAN (WGME) -- A high school music teacher charged with threatening to kill his girlfriend is out on bail.

Prosecutors say Andrew Maderios, 28, of Pittsfield choked his girlfriend until she passed out.

He now faces three counts of felony aggravated assault and three counts of domestic violence assault.

Prosecutors say the victim recorded two of the three assaults on her cellphone.

In the recordings, Maderios allegedly tells the victim the assaults are her fault and to take her last breath because she was going to die.

Maderios is on paid leave from Nokomis Regional High School in Newport.

His arraignment is scheduled for next month.

His bail conditions include a curfew, no contact with the victim or her children and he is banned from Bangor.
