The National Weather Service gives tips on how to stay safe during lightning
STATE WIDE (WGME) -- Two people hit by lightning in just two days; the severe weather and thunderstorms we've seen this summer are raising awareness to the dangers of lightning.
The National Weather Service recommends staying off elevated areas such as hills and avoiding bodies of water.
Experts say when you hear thunder, immediately head indoors and stay inside at least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder.
They say you don't have to be near the storm to be at risk and if you're indoors, avoid plumbing and electronics and stay away from windows and doors.
