Teen transient accused of assaulting, robbing 57-year-old man in South Portland
SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) -- An 18-year-old transient is behind bars after police say he came up behind a 57-year-old man and "violently" assaulted and robbed the man.
South Portland police said Shane Cote was jailed on a Class B robbery charge after the incident on Q Street early Saturday morning as the 57-year-old victim, whose name is not being released, walked home from work.. Police identified a possible suspect, and with the help of a police K-9 tracked down Cote.
"Someone responsible for this story of random act of violence needs to be held accountable," said Lt. Frank Clark in a press release. Police said Cote grabbing the man's belongings and run off after the assault.
Cote is being held on $1,000 bail at the Cumberland County Jail.
