Lewiston Middle School students get a few extra days of summer
LEWISTON (WGME) -- Ready or not it’s time to head back to school. Parents, students, teachers and administrators are all getting ready for the new school year.
Lewiston students will head back to school on Wednesday, except for kids at Lewiston Middle School. They will get a few extra days of summer because of $9 million renovation project that has delayed back to school preparations.
“Right now there's still dust in the halls, furniture is still being moved there's no books on the shelves,” said Lewiston Superintendent Bill Webster.
Webster says Lewiston Middle School students will go back to school after the holiday weekend on Tuesday.
“I know some teachers that might spend as much as two or three weeks of their summer getting their room just the way they like it and help them get in that mindset,” Webster said. “Other teachers can do it in an hour, but we felt it was real important to give teachers these extra 3 days.”
Meanwhile, students and parents were doing their own back to school preparations on Tuesday. Many were shopping for last minute supplies and clothing to get ready for the first day.
“Well you always have to have that new, that first day new outfit of course and just some stuff that the kids feel confident and fun in,” said Desiree Linkel, who was shopping for back to school outfits on Tuesday.
