Portland City Council repeals buffer zone ordinance

PORTLAND (WGME) -- City councilors have repealed an ordinance passed just a few months ago, limiting protests outside facilities that provide abortion services.

The buffer zone was put in place in November after consistent complaints that patients and other people were being harassed by pro-life protesters as they came and went from the building where Planned Parenthood is located but a recent supreme court ruling struck down a similar buffer zone in Massachusetts.

The city says they have little choice but to repeal it, as it would have likely also been defeated in the courts.
