The George H.W. Bush Celebrity Golf Classic tees off for a good cause
KENNEPUNKPORT (WGME) -- Fresh off his birthday sky dive in Kennebunkport, former President George H.W. Bush and a handful of celebrities hit the links for a good cause.
Tuesday was the 12th annual George H.W. Bush Celebrity Golf Classic at Cape Arundel Golf Course.
The 90-year-old former president, who recently jumped out of a helicopter for his birthday was seen hanging out and riding along in the golf cart.
The event is a fundraising opportunity for Garys House.
The Portland group offers "a home away from home" for families dealing with cancer for little to no cost.
It was inspired by Gary Pike, who in 1989 was getting ready to leave for college, when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Trudy McNeal, Garys mom, says, He stayed home and battled cancer for two and a half years. Three or four days before he passed away, he said mom I want you to continue helping families in my name and I said Ill try and he took my hand and said no mom you'll promise.
George H.W. Bush's grandson: George P. Bush served as the honorary chair.
Well-known celebrities like: CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz,a bush family friend, and fox news anchor Greta van Susteren were also there.
The annual golf event has raised 2 million dollars so far.
