Man chokes girlfriend, smashes cell phone, police say
WATERVILLE (WGME) -- A Waterville man is accused of choking his girlfriend and smashing her cell phone so she couldn't call 911.
Police tell CBS 13 that officers arrested 28-year-old Matthew Waldo early Friday. They say he called police, claiming his girlfriend assaulted him but she told officers a different story. Police say the victim told them that Waldo got angry over a Facebook conversation, then threw a cup of water on her, choked her, and smashed her cell phone when she tried to call the police. Waterville Police say the victim had bruises and her shirt was wet, which supported her story.
Waldo is charged with aggravated assault and lying to police. He could face up to 10 years behind bars just for the aggravated assault charge.
