Mainer caught in chaos of Ft. Hood shooting
FT. HOOD, TEXAS (WGME) -- New details are emerging about the gunman who killed three people and then himself Wednesday at Ft. Hood in Texas. Authorities say Ivan Lopez never saw combat when he was in Iraq, and he showed no apparent risk of violence. We talked to a Mainer who lives on the base and was caught up in yesterday's chaos. Brandon and April Waltman are stationed at Ft. Hood, with their three children. Brandon is serving a tour overseas. That left April home alone with her family -- while a gunman was on the loose and the base was locked down. April says she took her kids upstairs and made the best of a stressful situation. "I brought snacks up and drinks and we kind of had a like little slumber party," she said. The Waltmans are orginally from Bethel.
