Family takes action after $10,000 worth of tools is stolen from garage

SOUTH PARIS (WGME) -- A small business, hit by a string of robberies is hoping for the public's help to catch the thief. Someone ripped off thousands of dollars worth of tools from a South Paris business, but those owners took something too, a picture of the thieves caught in the act.

Tom Richards owns Richards and Sons Logging company. He says on three separate occasions, theives took more than 10,000 dollars worth of tools from his garage. Richards grandson Cyle Marriott decided to take action and put a motion sensor camera outside of the garage.

"I set that up there to help him because he's like my best friend and I want to find out who has taken this stuff because it's quite a bit of money that they've taken now," Marriott said.

Tom Richards wife Jean says the van and people in the pictures looked farmiliar.

"We're here today because of that little piece of information, knowing the make and model of the car, seeing the people put the things into the vehicle, we pretty much know who did it," Richards said.

The Richards family posted the photos on Facebook and is offering a reward for anyone with information. So far no arrests have been made, but already Jean says she believes the effort is a success.

"This really worked because our phones here, my husband's phone and my boys phone have been ringing off the hook this morning so would I do this again, I think I would," Richards said.

The South Paris police department would not go comment on the details of the case, but did say it is an open and active investigation and the department has suspects in mind.
