Longtime Boston Mayor Menino has advanced cancer
BOSTON (AP) -- A newspaper is reporting that former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has been diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer.
The Boston Globe reports that doctors found "an advanced cancer of unknown origin" that had metastasized. They were unable to find its source. The newspaper says the cancer was discovered in February by Menino's primary physician.
The 71-year-old Menino told the newspaper, "we'll get through it."
Menino served as Boston mayor for more than 20 years, longer than anyone else. He retired from the job a year ago after health problems forced him to decline to run for a sixth term.
