Sanford men face charges after violent assault

LITCHFIELD (WGME) -- Two Sanford men face assault charges after allegedly hitting a man with a baseball bat, choking him during an attack and threatening him with a gun in Litchfield.

Kennebec Sheriff's officials say 40-year-old Paul Goodrich and 35-year-old Robert Flaherty were in a truck, and turned around in the victim's driveway in Litchfield.

They say the two men damaged a barricade in the process. The victim apparently put it up to keep people from turning around in his driveway. Officials say the victim, 34-year-old Shamus Laperierre, then followed the truck to get a license plate number,

Instead, Lapierre was allegedly assaulted by the two men. The 34-year-old victim has a broken nose, scratches, cuts and bruises all over his body. Both Goodrich and Flaherty are facing elevated assault charges.
