Man accused of stabbing inmate makes first appearance in court

PORTLAND (WGME) -- An inmate at the Maine State Prison was in court Thursday afternoon, accused of stabbing a fellow inmate to death.

The state medical examiner says Richard Stahursky stabbed Micah Boland 87 times in the face, neck and torso.

They say Boland also had broken bones and a brain injury..

State police say Stahursky has admitted to stabbing Boland for allegedly causing Stahursky to lose his prison job.

Boland was serving time for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.

Stahursky made his first appearance on murder charge via video from the Maine State Prison. No plea was entered and no bail was set because he's already in prison.

According to the affidavit, the correctional officer on duty didnt notice anything unusual on Friday. Then, Stahursky appeared at her desk, shirtless, hands covered in blood, holding two knives and said "I need to be cuffed."

Detectives found a list of 5 names hidden in Stahursky's cell. Boland's name was on the list and had been crossed off.
