Debate over minimum wage continues in Maine

AUGUSTA (WGME) -- $10.10 an hour, that's how much democrats want to see the minimum wage go up in Maine and across the country.

Shenna Bellows, a democrat running to take on republican Senator Susan Collins, joined others Thursday dropping off petitions at Collins' office in Augusta.

The petitions call for Senator Collins to support a bill raising the minimum wage to 10 dollars and 10 cents an hour.

Right now, Maine's minimum wage is $7.50 an hour.

Bellows says she met a mother working on low wages who's skipping meals so her son can eat.

Collins has had a mixed record on hiking the minimum wage in the past, sometimes supporting it, sometimes not, depending on the circumstances.

She has not yet said if she supports the current increase.
