Jameson Tavern remains open as its building goes up for auction
FREEPORT (WGME) -- The Jameson Tavern in Freeport remains open while its building goes up for auction. A bank foreclosed on the building, located on Main Street, Monday after years of defaulting on mortgage conditions.
The historic home was built in the 17-hundreds and opened as a tavern in 1801.
The tavern went under new ownership last summer and the owners plan on starting restaurant renovations soon.
The building will be up for auction in March and is assessed at over one million dollars.
