Portland Restaurant closes, blames governor
PORTLAND (WGME) -- A Portland Mexican restaurant is closing its doors, and apparently blaming the governor.
Mesa Verde closed on Tuesday, and on Wednesday an inflammatory message appeared on its front windows: "Shutdown by the new gestapo of Augusta -- Governor LePage."
The abrupt closure comes less than two weeks after the restaurant failed a health inspection. It was the second failure since June.
Fletcher Curran says he worked at the Mexican restaurant for a month last summer before he was fired.
Everyone was talking about it on Facebook and all over the internet, said former employee Fletcher Curran.
Curran says owner Marco Ramirez was upset over a one percent hike in the food and beverage tax. It was a part of the last state budget that ironically the governor actually opposed, with democrats overriding his veto.
