Senator King wants NFL to pay its share of taxes
WASHINGTON (WGME) -- Maine Senator Angus King wants the National Football League to pay its fair share of taxes.
It might surprise you, but some big sports leagues like the National Hockey League, golf's PGA tour and the National Football League are technically non-profit organizations.
Senator King and a republican senator from Oklahoma say this has gone on for too long.
They've introduced a bill that would bar professional sports organizations who make more than $10 million a year from non-profit status.
King says you and I pay more in taxes so the NFL doesn't have to.
Teams that are members of the NFL, like the Patriots, do pay taxes.
