Thursday night hoops: Cheverus stuns S.P.
A rare full slate of Thursday night games, thanks to mother nature, leads to a big upset in Class A.
The Cheverus boys shocked top ranked South Portland with a 56-51 win that got the Stags into the playoffs on the final game of the regular season.
Cheverus (6-12) handed the Riots just their 3rd loss (15-3) South Portland will remain the top seed in Class A West.
In other action, Deering topped Portland 37-30. The Rams and Bonny Eagle finish up at 15-3. Portland drops to 14-4 and will likely be the #4 seed.
In Class B West, Falmouth and York both won to finish at 17-1.
In Class A East, Edward Little came back to top Lewiston 54-50. The Red Eddies (16-2) will be the #2 seed in the East, the Blue Devils (12-6) will be the #5.
On the girls' side, Cheverus won two games in less than 24 hours to finish the season 16-2 and likely the #2 seed. McAuley finished another perfect 18-0 with an easy win over South Portland.
