STORM TEAM13 WEATHER FORECAST

THE WORST OF THE HEAT IS BEHIND US
                                         ALL EYES ON EARL

On Thursday, the Portland Jetport recorded it's 5th consecutive day of 90 plus degree heat.  This ties the longest recorded heat wave since records have been kept at the Jetport. Records go back to the early 1940s.

We're shifting gears from heat to the track of Earl. Our forecast remains unchanged as the expected track will be close to Nantucket and east of Cape Cod Friday night.  With this track, all hurricane conditions should remain to our east, but tropical storm force winds are possible (39 mph or greater) along the coast (esp. Penobscot Bay east).  For this reason a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for coastal Maine and New Hampshire.  Rain will arrive late Friday and Friday night as the storm interacts with low pressure approaching from the west.  Locally heavy rain is possible through early Saturday morning.   With Earls expected track east of us, coastal flooding is unlikely, but minor splash over at the times of high tide is possible.  I would urge everyone to stay updated on this forecast, as any slight change in track west will significantly change this forecast.  If you would like to track the storm from home, click here for Storm Team 13s Hurricane Tracker.

Any rain will come to an end early Saturday morning, setting the stage for mostly sunny day.  Winds will remain quit active on Saturday, but out of the northwest gusting 20 to 30 mph.  The duration of the long holiday weekend is looking fairly quiet with sun and clouds. High temperatures are expected to be in the 70s.
