Okot Case: New Developments
The family of a man shot and killed by Portland police have filed a notice of claim in Cumberland County Superior Court.
Police shot David Okot to death back in April, saying it was in self-defense after Okot refused to put down his gun.
Okot's family has hired attorney, Dan Lilley, to look into the matter.
Lilley has requested a copy of police video from that night and that video likely will be key in deciding whether the family will move ahead with a wrongful death lawsuit against the police department.
The family claims the shooting was unjustified and is seeking $600,000 in damages.
