Swine Flu Update: 10 Mainers Hospitalized This Week
The Maine CDC says 10 Mainers were hospitalized this week with H1N1. Four of them were children - all of these children were perfectly healthy before coming down with the swine flu. One was a young adult, who also did not have any underlying conditions. Five are middle-aged adults, a majority have an underlying condition. Three of these patients ended up in the ICU.
The Maine CDC says nearly 100 schools have held vaccination clinics in the past two weeks alone. Another 200 clinics are scheduled within the next two weeks. Still, many schools are reporting a high absentee rate. 25 Maine schools have an absentee rate of 15% or higher. The Maine CDC says a decision to close schools will be made at the local level.
