MAINE NAT'L GUARD: No Maine Guard At Fort Hood, Scene of Deadly Shooting

The Maine Army National Guard says there are no guardsmen from Maine at Fort Hood Army base in Texas where shootings have left at least 12 dead and dozens wounded.

An Army spokesman says one of the suspects, Major Malik Nadal Hasan, who's in his late 30's, was shot on scene. Two other suspects, both soldiers, were taken into custody, and the Army spokesman says there were eyewitness reports of a fourth shooter.

In addition to the 12 dead, 31 were injured at last report. The identities of the victims weren't immediately available.

Maine Army National Guard Spokesman Shannon Cotta says that there are no Maine National Guard members currently stationed at Fort Hood. There was a group that came back from Fort Hood Wednesday night. Another group, the 1136th Transportation Company, is scheduled to go to Fort Hood in January. Eighty-one members of the 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion went to Fort Hood before going to Afghanistan.

It's unclear whether there is anyone from Maine at the base, apart from Guardsmen, but a spokesman with the Governor's Office says they have no information to indicate either way, though they are keeping an eye on the situation.
