Starving Students

Everyday more than 50,000 Maine children may go hungry. School lunches could be their only meal that day. The Good Shepard Food Bank is one organization trying to defeat child hunger. They work with 45 agencies that provide food strictly to children across the state.
One of those agencies is PROP. A worker there hands out free lunches during the summer months and says more and more children are walking to these community centers alone and hungry. Education specialists in the state say children come to school Monday mornings for breakfast starving, and asking for seconds. This proving that these children are not being fed over the weekends. These children are also at risk for preforming poorly on standardize tests. It crosses over into the classroom everyday. Child Hunger is an ongoing problem but there are ways to step up and help. Communities throughout Maine are trying to stop this problem and encourage you to get involved. Starving Students
