Comment: The Gov. will pass this bill and he should. It's time for Maine to move past old thinking of marriage being for "one man and one woman". Common sense over religious fanatics. from Portland, ME by Josh Deschenes
Comment: He may want to, but there's no way he can do it politically. from Portland by Brian
Comment: i hope so. its the morally right choice. also, the bill is inevitable, whether it gets passed this year or in five years, so it would be the smarter choice to pass it. from maine by halezzzzzzzz
Comment: he will give in because he does not care what the real people want.we do not have any rights anymore.these people have gone to far, when right along they had equal rights, like everyone else.why should the govenor or anyone else give special rights to certain people.he can't run again for governor,so he does not care about this bunch of crap.that's all this is,about having more rights than the rest of us have. from augusta,me. by sandy
Comment: Let's hope so from Portland Maine by Steven
Comment: I hope he realizes that our "representatives" do not necessarily represent the views and interests of many Mainers. Let the people decide. from Rumford by Laurie
Comment: I don't think Baldacci has enough courage to veto the the Gay marriage bill. from South Paris, Me. by Dennis
Comment: I think after he really thinks about it he will make the right decision from tuner by adam
Comment: I Hope he doesn't veto it-so far it's been passing with flying colors...I think he should sign it into law the moment it hits his desk :-) by Stacy
Comment: I HOPE SO by MARK
Comment: because if he veto's this bill, we the voters can have our say, the way it SHOULD be! from Paris Maine by Laurie
Comment: This is such a volatile issue that it should go to the voters. The people who attended the hearings represent only a small percentage of the people and voting is the only way people can be heard. Unless, of course, proponents or opponents fear the vote. from Portland by Rob
Comment: But I wish that the people of Maine can vote on this issue. If the peolpe of Maine vote it down then that should be it from rumford
Comment: I think the Governor is an inherently a fair man who will understand the importance of the passage to give all citizens of Maine equal rights under the law, which does not happen under "domestic partnerships" from Boothbay by Bonnie
Comment: I'm hoping he will accept us gays getting married, as he does do the Anti-discrimination. Hopefully he understands how desperate us gays are for these important rights and equalities. from Windham by Danielle
Comment: probley not but I realey hope so it is adem and eve not Adem and Steve from Lewiston, Maine by Brian
Comment: Maine needs to step forward and do the right thing by ensuring that ALL couples have the same rights, regardless of orientation. from Waterville by Danielle
Comment: Why do gays want to disrespect a holy ceremony? Why can't they just fight for civil union. Leave marriage between one man and one woman like God intended. by Bernie
Comment: He's never done what the people have wanted of him in the past, why should he start now. Signing this wil be a big mistake for Him and the state. Gays and Lesbians are not equal to a husband and wife, man and woman, they should not be allowed to marry. We' ve voted on this and beaten it in the past, the people of Maine have spoken, apparently, your vote doesn't count. from Lewiston by Craig
Comment: I am against this bill. Marriage is between a man and a woman. The Bible is totally against this. The Lord will have the last say some day. I am so thankful that he is the ultimate judge. This is wrong. I am so glad my son is home schooled. from Windham by Ann
Comment: He is terrific supporter for the homosexuality community! Plus think of all the money the government would make on all the weddings and it would benefit local store owners! from Falmouth by Kevin
Comment: This bill has nothing to do with religion. It is a legal decree. He should have no problem signing this bill, unless he allows his personal feelings cloud his judgement as an elected official. from Whiefield by Ron
Comment: Governor Baldacci should veto this bill because the people in Maine have voted on this many times and have always turned it down. So because they know they cannot get it from the voters they are going to try and go behind our backs and get something that is not right. Same sex couples have the ability to get medical and other benifits as long as they register as a couple in Portland so why should they be given more rights then a couple living together for years but not married. For a man and a women who have been together for years, they are not allowed to get medical or any of the benifits that are allowed for the same sex couples. Is it truely fair? Why should they be given more rights than any other non married couple? from Lewiston by Stacey
Comment: Because Baldacci will make everyone happy so they can get what they want. I am against it. I will be ashame of it if it happens. Marriage should between a man and a woman like Adam and Eve as of being of time. from Portland, ME by Jimmy
Comment: I definately think that the Governor will veto this bill to protect the morals of the people of the state that feel the way I do . It would be a shame to mankind and the slogan of the state which is the way life should be from Standish by Ronald
Comment: i think he should veto it because a marriage is between a man and woman... people need to realize that..... from Sabattus by C
Comment: Where would the civil rights movement be if it were relegated to the people? Extending civil rights to all is about leaders having the courage to do what is right and just regardless of popularity. Preaching that same sex marriage negates traditional marriage only perpetuates a negative connotation of homosexuality. Don't opponents know we come from families too? We are sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, uncles, aunts and grandchildren. Thank God not all families practice discrimination. from Rockland, ME by Frank
Comment: I certianly hope so. It is an abomination. For those of you that do not know what abomination means the adjecitive discribes something hateful, loathsome, putrid, sickening, awful, discusting , evil. It is total disrespect for God and those who call themselves clergy and condon same sex marriage have no love for the Lord. from Portland by Sharon
Comment: I think he realizes that the Senate and House speak for the majority of the people in this state. They would not have voted for the Same sex marriage without feeling they have the support from the people who voted them in. It is the right thing to do to end discrimination and hate crimes. The benefits to the state will be in licensing etc. Also it would finally join other New England states like, Vermont, Massa chusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Like politics, the right wing and the extremists should not control laws concerning equality. We had 8 years of that with the former President trying to apease those same people. from Harpswell, Maine by Rose
Comment: However, I pray he will veto it. Maine slogan used to be the way life should be. It appears to me this once beautiful state is becoming more ugly every day. from Lebanon by Donald
Comment: I am hopeful that the Governor will recognize Maine Equality by passing this bill. from Saco, Maine by Kyle
Comment: Gays are entitled to the same things as hetro sexed couples. They probably have a more stable relationships them hetro's from North Berwick, Maine
Comment: NO, marriage is between a man & a woman. That is when God put Adam & Eve. This is demoraling & dumb stupid no way what are we teaching our kids lesban from Boothbay Harbor, Me by Donna
Comment: No I don't think he will because like all the other politicians they're too afraid of going against the tide. from Berwick, ME by Jane
Comment: If he doesn't he isn't a true Christian. It's just a title to get votes. from Lyman, ME by K.
Comment: I hope that the governor is not deceived by a group of people trying to impose their lifestyle on the State under the guise of "rights." from Oxford, Maine by Lisa
Comment: I hope the governor will have the courage to veto the bill. from new gloucester me by gail
Comment: Certainly, our Governor knows that Marriage is between a Man and a Woman. Maine does not need to follow other States. I am not against Gays but certainly do not believe in Same Sex Marriage from Augusta, ME by Joan
Comment: I hope so. Marriage is a holy saccrament given from God for a man and a woman. I think they should be able to live together if they want to and have legal rights such as insurance and benefits but call their union something else NOT MARRIAGE from benton maine
Comment: I have a daughter who is a lesbian and plans on getting married. I am excited to see that she may not have to go to a different state to make her wish come true. It's about time this state moves into an era that recognizes that everyone is equal no matter what your sexual preference is.Do the right thing Governor B. from Boothbay Harbor by Helen
Comment: yes ido. if he is realy a God fearing catholic person as he claims,he will have, in good conscience,no choice but to veto any bill that goes against God and the moral principles that this state and country were founded on.If he does not, then he is infact not who he claimed to be. from buxton, maine by william
Comment: I hope and pray that he will. I hope that he will thoroughly think all details of this bill through and veto it. We also hope he will concentrate on the more pressing issues of Maine right now like the economy and the swine flu, and leave Maine with life the way it should be. from Rumford, Maine by Becky
Comment: I sure as hell hope so !! by Debbie
Comment: C'mon, This legislature is so out of touch with real Maine- send this issue to the voters i November. That is the right thing to do. from Portland by Angie
Comment: I think that the turnout at the hearing last week, the senate vote and the house vote all show that NOW is the time for marriage equality. I think that the Governor will have to realize that now. from Bath, Maine by Courtney
Comment: Our founding fathers would be outraged if they knew where this country was going. from Gray by Rebecca
Comment: Rights living as a couple is one thing and redefining the marriage is another. from Lewiston by Diane
Comment: Another liberal catholic democrat that breaks his solemn oath to God and country. from Harrison by Paul
Comment: I hope he does ..why do we even bother to vote as i know we have voted on this 3 times .what happen when they don't pass things. they bring it up again and again So why do we vote???????? from wiscasset maine by Art & Deb
Comment: No! The Govenorr wioll not because he is a liberal Democrat. from AUBURN, MAINE by PATRICK
Comment: He is just another liberal following the rest of the pack! I am disappointed with the whole legislature for passing this immorality. Marriage is between one man and one woman! I look foward in signing the petition! from West Gardiner by Brian
Comment: I would HOPE the governor of any state would allow the people to vote on an issue as volital as this one. from Scarborough by Bob
Comment: I hope he does!!!!!!!! same sex marriage is just wrong from China ME by Peter
Comment: Let the people vote on this! from waterville by justin
Comment: well i do hope so,becauce god made man kind, and the way the bible reads, marriage should be for men and woman. we're living in a time of sodamin and gamor. when famine and desies will spread. as a result of anti christ desitions. like noahs ark, and when the water spread, god is alive and his wrath will hit. then what will you say. it easyer to say repent. and turn from your devels avacates ways. also children of yesterday knew that there is a mommy and daddy, now today, children are confused and gay people will turn children into being gay and in the childen's eyes that's why they are confused because when they get older they don't know who to marry and it open's a pandora's box for more children to be raped. i don't my children raped out of morals and ethic's.why do gay people have more rights then my children. from biddeford, maine by james
Comment: i think it shauld go to a referemdum, let all the people of maine vote on it from sabattus by leo
Comment: If Baldacci know what's best for the state of Maine, he'll veto it. from Maine by Mark
Comment: The Governor understands that this is, at the very least, an issue of fairness and equality for all Maine citizens. Religious organizations will not thwart the will of the people to safeguard liberty and justice for all as espoused by our founding fathers who understood the importance of the separation of church and state. from Cape Elizabeth by Richard
Comment: Marriage is between a man and woman, if gays want to legally be together than lets call it a civil union so as to differentiate between them and straights. from Portland by John
Comment: No, I think he shouldn't veto this bill. It's time for equality in Maine, and hopefully other states later on. from Saco, Maine by Anthony
Comment: I believe he will stand up for the minority group. That's what the democratic party was founded on. The majority should not dictate the rights of the minority. from Scarborough by Laura
Comment: as a catholic he must veto it. as a catholic you must help and support anyone who has a mental illness, but calling a union that can not produce a child a marriage to appease people to get their votes would be very dishonest not only to our faith, but to john as a man who must one day stand before our god from scarborough by mark
Comment: I certainly hope not. As a Catholic, I'm saddened by Bishop Malone,s stand on this. from Windham by Bill
Comment: If the governor weighs the evidence and supports his lawmakers, he will sign this much needed bill to grant equal rights to our gay citizens. from Gardiner, ME by Pamela
Comment: he will say yes, just because he can. i feel my rights married to my husband shouldn't be any different the anyone else. It should go out to the people of Maine, we have said no two other times but no one wants to here that. gay marriage maybe fine for some but not fair to others. you can't teach religion at school, why should they be able to teach that being gay is fine? from Springvale, maine by Louisa
Comment: His duty as govenor is to civil justice and supercedes his religious beliefs. from Old Orchard Beach by Michael
Comment: I hope he vetoes it, because it should go before the voters! This is becoming a very sick society! from Harrison, Maine by Imelda
Comment: I hope not. Putting civil rights to a state-wide vote is NOT the way it should be. Why should others be able to vote on MY civil rights? Baldacci should pass the bill. There should be no question. from Buxton by Michele
Comment: Probably not, even though he should. Why is this needed when living wills and wills can cover many of the concerns? What happens when someone says "I want to marry two people" and that becomes acceptable because of this precedent. from ME by Joel
Comment: because same sex is not right adam & eve /// not steve if you put two men together and they adopt a boy ...he or the two men will do something to each other /// and thats bad (they'll kill one or the other) from Portland by Robert
Comment: I hope so. Hopefully, as a professed Catholic, he will stay true that "marriage" is between one man and one woman. from Mexico by Anne
Comment: I don't think he has the courage to veto it. by Dick
Comment: Marriage is between a woman and a man. Same sex should be called something-Like "union" from Lisbon Falls, ME by Marvin
Comment: we live in the way sould be from Arundel by larry
Comment: Same sex marriage is not a matter of personal rights; it is and always has been about moral values. If Governor Baldacci believes in the faith he professes, he must veto the bill. from Mechanic Falls by Les
Comment: its called equal rights. for it to be equal we need to be accepted too. from Kennebunk by Dylan
Comment: I sure hope he will. It's time for this to be passed in Maine. It's also time that people realize that this IS NOT a "special gay right", it is about a civil right. All men are created equal according to the Constitution of the United States and until this passes in every state, the Federal and State Governments are allowing discrimination to happen in our own country. I feel anyone should have the right to marry the PERSON he/she is in love with. Governor Baldacci must realize that it is time for FULL EQUALITY in maine not just for the majority of people. Thanks so much!! from Lisbon. Maine by Phil
Comment: Like most politicians today, he will not vote his true beliefs but rather his political future! from Naples. ME by Bill
Comment: I don't feel that it is right for gay marriage to be taught to our children and it just is not normal to be gay. I am so glad that my children will soon be out of school so they will not have to be taught about gays. It is more normal for man and woman and if no one believes it then get the Bible out and you can learn about how gay is not normal. from sabattus, maine by dean
Comment: The governor is a Democrat and thus a liberal. This means he ignores the will of the voters. No, he won't veto the same-sex marriage bill. from South Portland / ME by Jim
Comment: It astounds me that we can legislate laws, which are lobbied by a select few, who choose to make a different moral decision can now force everyone else to conform. I can't wait until the human genetic code is completely decoded to disprove its civil liberty, but, by then, I am afraid all states will have joined Maine in passing this law. from Falmouth by Matt
Comment: If he wants to stop the insanity in this country he will. from Lyman by DD
Comment: I believe in total traditional marriage, one woman, one man."Notice I put the woman first", EQUAL RIGHTS." I do not believe married people of the same sex should raise children to their beliefs. What is wrong with the Maine same sex law as it stands? I have friends that are Gay and I am not affraid to explain my beliefs to them, and they understand. They know I believe in traditional marriage, and that I accept them as friends even though they are Gay, so they respect my feelings as I respect theirs, and we are still friends. As I see it what anybody does in their own space is their own business, "BUT" tradition is tradition. You may have a son, daughter, that comes out and admittes that they are Gay, "BUT" you should be able to admit that you have a Gay family member and not feel ashamed in any way "BUT" still stick to your morals on traditional marriage without feeling pressured to vote othervise. If you support your family member for what she, or he believes, than your family member should support you for what you believe. My point is "there is nothing wrong with the Maine Same Sex Law as it stands now" as Maine has proven "we do not DISCRIMINATE", We understand, we want to protect the Gay community, But Maine is a traditional marriage State and I Believe It Should Stay That Way. from ROCKPORT, MAINE by BARRY
Comment: I certainly hope he vetoes this, No opposition to same legal standing but do not call it marriage from Sabattus by John
Comment: god made adam and eve not adam and steve from maine by jay
Comment: I pray that he does. from McFalls,Me. by Bob
Comment: I have no objection to a persons personal choice;but that does not mean the choice they make is a good or correct one. Like smoking if you ask a smoker if the choice to have a smoke is a good one they will most of the time say it was not. Most of Mainers will respect a persons personal choice no matter what it is for.But if we allow this change for same sex marrage to take place we are saying that that choice is a good one.Like smoking we allow tabacco products to be sold in our state but do not allow that same tabacco to be smoked in our public buildings. The same should be done with same sex partners. We will not condem anyone for their choice but also can not condoe it as well. from Bath by Dale
Comment: Of course. He is a liberal rumpswab. from Lebanon, Me by Bryan
Comment: This issue should go to the people's vote. Where are our rights to vote. Baldacci you should retire, maine has had enough of your crap from biddeford maine by d
Comment: I think he well veto the bill. He got married y cant they from maine by AL
Comment: Not sure if he will. But being a country to have freedom of speech, same sex marriage is wrong. To have to vote on it clearly states its not natural and never will be. from gorham by kc
Comment: I belive the governor will ultimately vote his conscience in supporting traditional marriage from lisbon me by josh
Comment: LD 1020 is a civil right and I believe the Governor will look to the legal points not the religious side from lewiston, me by james
Comment: I sure hope so. Being gay is a choice. If you choose to be gay then you choose not be married. Marriage is between ONE Man and ONE Woman. from Lewiston ME by Michael
Comment: i think it is a joke. a man and a women should be married not the same sex. come on this is a joke. send it out to the people and i guarentee it will be shut down. Is the government god? no. Send the vote to the people. from augusta/maine by Dan
Comment: everyone should have the right to get even the same sex people i do not see anything wrong with it everyone should have the right they are just people and they do have the right so let them get married if they love each other let them get married they have the right just like everyone else. from portland, maine
Comment: The governor will do the right thing and secure civil rights for all of the people of Maine. from South Berwick Maine by Mary
Comment: I am counting on it! from Gardiner, Maine by Dee
Comment: He hasn't done anything good for the state why would he start now. from Topsham by Jean
Comment: Personally, I'm sick to death of people bringing religion into it. This isn't the Middle Ages anymore; marriage isn't just about religion, it also concerns legal issues and rights that are being denied to a certain group of people. Get over yourselves. from Portland by Randi
Comment: I THINK THE GOVERNOR WILL , BECAUSE I BELIEVE HE'A A HONORABLE PERSON from WILTON, MAINE by BILL
Comment: I feel thet it will be a new thing in this state and we will have to get used to it, like it or not. from MAINE by UNSURE
Comment: If he has a belief in Western civilization for the past 2000 years he certainly must veto this travesty. If he doesn't , "Maine will no longer be the way life should be" from So. China,Me. by James
Comment: Marraige is between a man and a woman only! from Cornish, Maine by Sherry
Comment: I don't think so from Portland by Emmanuel
Comment: He should not veto it. The elected representatives of the people have spoken, loud and clear. from Portland by Peggy
Comment: This is about doing what is right, its about the law and fairness, btw - I'm a straight woman - and i STILL believe this is the right thing to do! from topsham, ME by Kelly
Comment: we have already voted on this and said NO!! It's like a little child being told no and coming back and badgering until someone gives in. This needs to stop!!! We said NO!!!! from gardiner by Chrissy
Comment: Politically, I don't think so because where this is his last term in office, he has nothing to gain and nothing to lose by signing or not signing it. If he does not sign it, there is still not enough for a 2/3 vote to override it. We have voted down different versions of simular bills three times, how many times do we have to do this until this community gets the message. Personally, I would pray the Governor does the right thing and not sign the bill. Marriage should be between one man and one woman. As it is stated in the Bible. by Peter
Comment: I pray that he will. The special interest groups are trying to tear down every tradition they can.If this happened centuries ago there would be no humans on this planet today. from Buckfield by Allen
Comment: I can't believe with all the problem in this state, out of control spending, health care, taxes, job loss, and welfare problems, that or government is wasting so much time and energy on such insignificant issue as who a person wants to marry. Let's get to work on some real problems. from Wiscasset/me by John
Comment: I think that he may. Our Govenor is bright, He knows his responsibility is to sign bills that have had hearings, and been passed by our legislature. THIS bill does not question religeous beliefs , or even bring religeon into it. It is a bill about civil marriage. This ias a cival rights debate. Our government must restore the rights to folks who have had them denied ! from windham by Ellie
Comment: No! Gay marriage is not of God, but man. God created man and woman and no where in Sacred Scripture does it say He created man and man. Marriage is sacred in the eyes of many faiths. from Portland by Camara
Comment: Our Nation's constitution establishes the precedent of "Majority Rule". e.g. election of public officials. Citizens of Maine have turned this down. Enough is enough! from South Gardiner, ME by Ronald
Comment: As long as the state recognizes marriages performed outside the church(i.e. notaries, etc) There is no reason not to recognize same sex marriages. Because we allow marriages to be recognized outside of the church, we are recognizing that marriage is not just a religious institution. from Westbrook by Kimberly
Comment: Even though he claims that in his opinion it should be a peoples referendum, he will sign it rather than risk offending anyone by standing fast. This is an issue for the people, NOT the legislature!!!! from Topsham by Jim
