Should Mainers be allowed easier access to medical marijuana?

Comment: NO!!!!! In 90% of the cases it's just a matter of legalizing their weed habit--not medical. from Norway, ME by Patricia

Comment: Yes they should It is a shame that this is such an issue when certain prescription drugs are handed out everyday which people are allowed to operate cars or machinery. from westbrook by Jim

Comment: EVERYONE should be permitted to purchase pot, and the sick should be able to pick it up, all bagged, with bong included at distribution centers throughout the State. I can't even grow a geranium, how can you expect gravely ill people to grow pot! Why is this country so Puritanical about an herb that never killed anyone? Remember 'Prohibition' and how well that worked? I don't remember it, but I've learned from reading about it. from PORTLAND, ME by CAROL

Comment: definitely should be legal. It's only a weed! from so paris by tim

Comment: Yes they should, if Marijuana has medicinal purposes it should be availabe to Mainers, I do believe that Tobacco has no medicinal value and you can purchase those products from any convience store, smoke shop, or supermatket anywhere in the state. from Saco by John

Comment: Yes, for Medical reasons it should be allowed from Bath Me by Darlene

Comment: Yes. I think it would help relieve pain and stress for a lot of people. from Acton by Richard

Comment: Yes, i do think Mainers should be able to receive medical marijuana more easily, i have had friends in my life time who either need it or should need it and quite frankly it would make for a more docile environment from Bethel by Travis

Comment: It would appear to me that, since the lawmakers made marijuana, it should be available where ever any other prescriptions are available. If they are unwilling to make it more available then, either remove the law from the books and/or fund a study to seek alternates. It is very unfair to make marijuana legal and make it impossible to get it legally. from Westbrook by Peter

Comment: YES....YES....YES....WHY NOT. COME ON IT HELPS MORE THAN A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW OR THINK. from WELLS by L

Comment: YES, for a start. And the next step is to figure out how to legalize it entirely and regulate the sale and taxing of it, in the same manner alcohol and tobacco products have been. It is a new age, it is time for our government to realize that marijuana is even less harmful than alcohol, and that legalizing it would allow law inforcement agencies to FOCUS on getting the "serious" drugs off our streets and away from our children. It's a simple issue. Crack kills. Heroin kills. Crystal Meth kills. Cocaine kills. Marijuana does not. I don't even smoke it, and I know that! from Lewiston by Ann

Comment: Yes the People of Maine should have access to medical Marijuuana. If a drug can help a person recover from an illness than It must be made available. from Auburn by James Jr.

Comment: Absolutely--I know people that have used it for medical purposes only and it was the only thing that helped. from Sidney, ME by Sue

Comment: only if it has to do with a medical condition, like cancer etc.there are people out there who just want it just to smoke it.i am not in favor of marijuana, but if it will help those that are in need for medical purpose, then i can deal with it.it is people who abuse marijuana and go to stronger drugs that i have a problem with.what these people need is prescription only and a little card giving the ok by their physician.any one who does not have this is not abiding by the law and there will be consequences to deal with. from augusta,me. by sandy

Comment: certainly mainers ought to be allowed easier access to medical marijuana. in fact, marijuana ought to be legalized - remember how poorly proibition worked ? from Biddeford, Maine by Hunt

Comment: i believe that this is an issue that our society - for the most part - has warmed up to. I think its a little easier for people to see why cannabis was demonized in the "reefer madness" days, but it is so obvious that prohibition is not the answer with the black market it opens up. I feel that medical marijuana should be accessible to all who need it. When someone is ill and they can't eat - weather it's due to side effects from therapy or nausea from the disease - one little toke and the pain and nausea subside allowing the individual to eat and therefore keep a stronger immune system making it an easier and healthier option then pharmasuticals that the gov't approves of. Leaving you with nasty side effects that are often worse then what you're dealing with in the first place. Not to mention the addictive qualities - the worst that a marijuana user will encounter is restlessness, irritability and food just wont taste as good, but all this is after heavy use for a long period of time. So in all i feel that the Maine Gov't needs to recognize that as a whole the society is ready for. from Buxton by Ryan

Comment: Maybe, Do some very in depth (and credible) studies into the real value of THC. See if it really is worth giving out medically or is it just another excuse for a bunch of lazy drug heads to get high. I'm willing to bet that this is another excuse for some pothead to get high. from W by Matt

Comment: Absolutely, it has less side effects than many of the legal prescription drugs. I feel to withold a medicine that could help someone with MS, seizures, alzheimers and more is immoral. from Ol Orchard Beach by Nancy

Comment: Yes, I think so, it can help some people with their health issues from oob by Babs

Comment: i am an ex user of marijuana, and i feel as tho it shoulds be legal for medicinal reasons, as well as personal use. it ia a whole lot more mellow than alchohol from Oakland, Me by Parker

Comment: Yes, for those that can medically benefit from it, they should be able to get marijuana by presciption, the same as any other prescription medicine. from Augusta ME by Lloyd

Comment: Absolutely! Save $$ on enforcement and get gov.t off our backs!! Hey! If it works, why not with a Dr's perscription? from Boothbay, Maine by Elizabeth

Comment: No...marijuana can lead to other things. When marijuana isn't enough...what then? Heroin? from Windham by Angela

Comment: Yes! It helps with back pain and stomach issues. from Sanford,Me. by John

Comment: of course they should from oxford by dave

Comment: Yes, especially when cancer and chemotherapy is involved... from Buxton, ME by Laurie

Comment: NO...WE HAVE ENOUGH DRUNKS, ETC ON THE ROAD....LET'S NOT ADD POTHEADS TO THE MIX.....BAD MOVE. from ARUNDEL by P

Comment: honestly i get it helps some people who are sick...but lets face it...some people would sell it just like other drugs get sold..so no i dont think it should be..theres got to be other ways from south china, maine by stacie

Comment: I beleave in away it should be legal For medical purpose ONLY!!!! from Lewiston Maine by Theresa

Comment: Yes, My dad has extremly bad headaches from MS.. He will not try Marijuana being Illegal.. from Buxton by Greg

Comment: Yes, all marijuana, anytime anywhere, any amount. by Ann

Comment: yes by Cyndi

Comment: Yes. They should just tax it and make up for the shortfall in the budget. They'll never understand will they? from Wales by Gary

Comment: I'm not a user, but I think that it should be legalized and controlled by the State so it can provide income. More people use it than anyone realizes. So get your heads out of the sand! from Turner, ME by Kelly

Comment: yes absolutely. It is mean spirited to put barriers to legitimate compassionate use of medication regardless of if its grown or bought form a big drug company from Portland ME by Jerry

Comment: How no-brainer is it to have it dispensed at pharmacies as a regulated drug? My gosh, I can think of considerably more dangerous substances that are perfectly legal as long as a prescription is written. This seems, to me, to be a case of a handful of stubborn, backwards thinking people trying to block this. I truly hope none of them find themselves in a situation where they are begging for something to relieve their agony. from Portland by Rob

Comment: YES I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE THAT RIGHT IF IT HELPS OUT WITH THEIR PAIN. from STANDISH, ME. by HOWIE

Comment: Mainers are no different then anyone else and deserve the right to have access like everyother part of the country. The real question is why/will they make it legal for everyone which I belive is the better alternative. Alcohol and smoking among other drugs that are harmful are legal, what makes weed any different? from Brunswick/ Maine by Dan

Comment: definately if the patients are in a lot of pain and if this helps why not let them have it from lewiston by jami

Comment: There is enoeph prescription drugs out without using pot from Leeds, Me. by Gail

Comment: Yes! Remember this access will be only for those who qualify under Maines medical marijuana law. Patients will need a place to obtain it legally. Otherwise they will be expected to get it on the street. from Norway, ME by Tonya

Comment: YES!! Medical marijuana can help patients with a variety of problems. Take a look at California and how much their state government is making a year off the medical sale of marijuana, it can only help our state. from Westbrook by Val

Comment: When people are in pain and other medications are not effective then marijuana should be an alternative. from brunswick, ME by bill

Comment: yes i do, where i am in pain 24/7. i think mainers should have access to medical marajuana . then no 1 will get addicted to a narcotic drugs. and would be able to b pain free . from Sabattus,ME by anna

Comment: Absolutely! If people can provide proper prescriptions/arguments from their physician that this would be beneficial, than definitely. In my opinion, as a nurse, I feel as though it should be treated like most other prescription pain medications. Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and Hydrocodone (to name a few) are sought out by many that don't "need" the drug and that causes crime, but those aren't limited or denied to people (who provide evidence of the need), so why should marijuana be any different? from Biddeford by Erine

Comment: Sure, but personally, I think there is plenty of other medications available so why bother with the stinky stuff!? from Scarborough Maine by Charlene

Comment: YES, This Should have been done years ago! from Waterford by Roger

Comment: Sadie from Portland,Maine. The only way Medical Marijuana should be under supervision of a Meducal Person, Nurse..@ a patient's home or in a Hospital..Other wise NO! Could get into the wrong hands, if left Laying around as Medications are.. from Portland,Me. by Sadie

Comment: Without any question. The real crime is denying people in pain a way to relieve their pain. from Waterboro by Ray

Comment: No. Though people who say they need it for their medical condition and that it would help them cope with pain, it would be an access to more of a drug problem here which is pretty bad already! from Auburn by Coleen

Comment: Though I dont use pot due to my CDL license I feel those that would benefit from it for medical purposes should be allowed to use it. I feel the crime rate would actually be reduced. Im talking about pot not crack LSD cocaine and so on. The state should legalize it and benefit from it with taxes. Now there's a stimulas plan that would work!!! from Fryeburg ME by Tony

Comment: YES! As an HIV/AIDS medical marijuana patient here in Maine I think the Maine citizens will once again be the voice of reason and compassion in November. from westbrook by charles

Comment: Yes, we must allow patients choices in treatment . Natural products do have benefits. Government and pharmaceutical companies will always protest a product they cannot bank on! I know the benefits on an intimate and personal level. from ME by Gina

Comment: Definately Yes!This drug has so many benefits and really helps people. Have you ever sat in a room with someone who has had too much to drink? There's no comparison. The person on marijuana is much more enjoyable. And it's crap it leads to stronger drugs-this is the governments way of scaring people. If they legalized it - it would solve the country's deficit problems. from Eustis, Me. by Sherie

Comment: yes. simple as that; stop the nonsense. from Portland, ME by Joe

Comment: Yes, absolutely!! Legalize it across the board, end the resession now!! from Bowdoin Maine by The

Comment: Don't really think so! At least not in this time! We don't need to legalize this drug at all! What's next,if we do? Have herion added to the list of being legalized? That's really scary! It will just give kids and potheads a good reason to steal it,whether they do need it or not! I say put it in a field and burn it,so that it is useless to anyone! Don't need it behind the counter, don't need it on the streets, don't need it anywhere at all! Just like alcohol, just to dangerous to have in the first place! from Waterville,Maine by Gary

Comment: I already thought this was the case. How else do you explain the fact that we keep voting for the Democrat party? from South Portland / ME by Jim

Comment: Yes from Corinth by John

Comment: Yes. People who are sick deserve to have safe and easier access to their medicine. from So. Portland, Maine 04106 by Elizabeth

Comment: yes absolutely from Auburn by Dillan

Comment: Yes. Regardless, doctors will not prescribe it without going trying a lot of other medications first. This will have very limited availability. It's already easy to obtain, this would change almost nothing. from Auburn by Mark

Comment: Yes, it is a controlled substance and it has been shown to help many people. I also feel the gov. should increase taxes on alcohol. from Lebanon,Maine by David

Comment: Yes, Yes, Yes...being a Medical Care provider I see a lot of unnecessary suffering in cancer patients. This drug helps w/ pain and also increases food consumption which helps the body regain strength. Doctor's in other countries have been prescribing it for years. We need to look at it's benefits and stop anticipating the worst. by Karyn

Comment: YES!! IT SHOULD BE REGULATED LIKE MORPHINE AND OxyContin.THOSE TWO ARE VERY ADDICTIVE. IT WAS ONLY BANNED IN THE 30's BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAX IT TILL THE 60's WHEN IT WAS BANNED THE WAY IT IS NOW!! from Greene, ME by Wilhelm Scream

Comment: i would say yes, i know a friend that has aids, she has permission from her doctor to use marijuana for medicinal purposes and i know it helps her alot with the pain, her dis comfort,& depression. I think medical marijuana would result in less criminal activity. If everyone had access to marijuana for "medicinal" purposes i think THAT would would raise the crime rate. But not one who actually needs it. from South portland by Sandra

Comment: If marijuana helps the sick of course it should be legal not only in Maine but in the whole world as needed but not supplied in weed form but in a pill form designed by medical experts that would be a bummer for all the weed heads out there sorry guys no go. PROUD DRUG ENFORMANT from Westbrook by David

Comment: Cancer is a horrible thing to your famliy and friends go through. I'v seen it first hand to many times. If there is a plant that can ease there pain in any way it should be allowed. It seems to me that the time has come to stop useing religion and law to form policys from litchfield maine by don

Comment: NO BECAUSE THEN IT WILL BE USED FOR RECREATIONAL USE!! IF IT'S USED FOR MEDICAL REASONS THAN KIDS ARE GOING TO THINK THAT IT'S OK TO USE ON THEIR OWN!! from Maine by Olivia

Comment: no they should not it should not be access to make marijuana a medical drug. it should not be at all marijuana is not a medical drug. keep it off the market for good. from portland, maine

Comment: With the proper rules, strict regulations, medical oversight, regular testing (of the patients) yes. from Richmond by Stacey

Comment: NO. Here's a no brainer for SOME cancer patients who could have done something to possibly prevent any cancer. DO NOT SMOKE!! If you know that something is potentially harmful to you or others, then DONT DO IT!! Now some of you are looking to legalize a drug that can harm you because you werent smart enough to not harm youself in the first place. And for the rest of you who did nothing special to recieve your misfortune, I am sorry but please do not bring one more harmful thing into the rest of world it has enough. from Casco by Rick

Comment: no from lewiston, maine by brian

Comment: yes, i think that if there is a good reason for a patient to need it and suffer from intense pain they should be allowed. i dont smoke it but i do approve of it for medical purposes, from standish by marylou

Comment: yes they should have medical marijuana if it is going to help them from Biddeford Maine by Irene

Comment: Yes, in some cases it really is the one thing that eases pain and nausea. by diane

Comment: By proventing the capability of people who need the drug you are giving the drug dealers who peddle harder substances more power and raising the amount we need to pay in taxes to increase our police force. Doctors regulating a patients perscriptions are backed by goverment powers that can regulate and give accountability to the distribution. from Gray Me by chris

Comment: The only difference between a drug made with chemicals in a lab and a drug growing in a field is who made it! The FDA has approved a myriad of drugs that are incredibly dangerous and have even proved deadly. To think that Medical Marijuana is going to gravely impact crime rates is naive and short-sighted. The FDA should take many things off the shelves and approve more natural foods, herbs and drugs - including marijuana. It's certainly safer than tobacco and alcohol! from Biddeford, ME by Barbra

Comment: Yes, because I know of a few people that without it they probably would not have made it while waiting to get into the specialist. The appointments were set for three months in advance due to backups in medical care with specialist. Without the medical marijauna, this person was losing a 1/2 a pound a day, but it allowed her to maintain her weight just enough til she saw the specialist. by Heather

Comment: Of course Mainers should have easier access to medical marijuana. Not only can it help with pain and stomach problems, but it will be safer for those who need it if it is regulated. With out proper access, it will be bought on the street where it can be cut with many harmful substances that could severely harm or even kill someone. from Lewiston by Korrin

Comment: Yes. Say no to drugs? Our society is made up of legalized drug pushers of alcohol and perscription drugs! There are plenty of more dangerous drugs that are legalized and pushed onto the elderly! from Boothbay Hbr., ME. by Marie

Comment: There are already medicines out there that are legal. Not to mention that smoking pot would still harm the lungs. So even if it did relieve certain symptoms,it would just cause lung problems. from Biddeford,ME by Rev.Brian

Comment: absolutely. i think it would actually benefit more then just the users. i honestly think anyone getting any type of state benefits should be drug tested. but if we came down on everyone smoking weed then no one would be able to get help. but if they had a presciption and ligit reason for smoking its a whole other story and i think it would help us be able to crack down on everyone using and abusing the system from kennebunk by maggie

Comment: cigarettes and alcohol is allowed and causes so much problem and cost taxpayers unbelievable amounts.insurance costs because of alcohol deaths caused by both.marijuana is such a positive thing if only to compare with tobacco and alcohol.wake up its all positive.make it legal again and get some of this wasted money and put it to needed issues. from Portland /Maine by Steven

Comment: Yes if t is licensed and treated like any other controlled substance or pharmaceutical prescribed by a doctor. from Central Maine by Moderate Thinker

Comment: NO!!!!!!!!!! from buxton by gary

Comment: If it truly helps terminally ill patients and others with chronic pain, then I am all for it. It can't be any worse than cigarettes or alcohol. from Topsham by Aimee

Comment: No, that is just encouraging a drug substence when we already deal with drug problems. from Standish, Me. by Lee

Comment: Yes...absolutely. Patients who are prescribed medical marijuana should have a regulated location to purchase the prescription. We may already have plenty of prescription drugs available, but Marijuana is natural and a renewable resource. It is grown, not manufactured. Plus with more ways of ingesting THC from the plant (vaporizor, cooking with foods), marijuana no longer needs to be smoked to get the effects therefore eliminating the tar and chemicals ingested while smoking the drug. It's time for Marijuana to be legal. Far too many benefits for this plant to be illegal. from Westbrook by Dan

Comment: Yes, It is time to do this. We passed legislation years ago legalizing medical use. But still have to buy it illegally. from Union, ME by Carleton

Comment: Yessss! It should also be legalized for personal use like alcohol. I am a teacher at Scarborough High School You should be allowed to grow up to say 6 plants at a time. Make the illeagle sale of it a very harsh penalty if someone does it and get caught. I don't smoke it but I know a lot of people that dob students and parents alike that do. I can tell you I would rather be on the same road as somone who has smoked a joint versus a driver that is drunk!. You also don't see the stoners beating their wives or girl friends when they are stoned. But you do if they are drunk. Wake up. It is time time to change the laws about marijuana- Legalize it and tax the hell out of it just like they do to tobacco. from Scarbrough by Jane
