Comment: President Obama has a well thought out plan that will get rid of all the excess spending and stop all the abuse that's been going on with big corporations. from Portland by Brian

Comment: Economies live or die because of the mindset of the people. I feel that we now have a leader who inspires people and already feel a more optomistic change in the people around me. from Cape Elizabeth by Glen

Comment: obama needs to stop talking and listen to what people are saying. he knows his plan won't work thats why he as to flap his mouth about all the time. he said he won't raise taxes on people makeing less then 250,000. well, how about 2,200 percent federal tax increase on role your own tabacco? lower income citizens who smoke buy that kind of tabacco to help save money so they can survive. obama is a sneaky lier! from westbrook, by matt

Comment: Bigger government, more taxes, less jobs. Tough times ahead for the next 4 years. from Lewiston by Andrew

Comment: I do not feel any more confident after last nights speech, the congress has not gotten it yet, another 410 billion dollar porky spending spree and right after the President said he was doing away with all wastefull spending, what a laugh from Winthrop, Maine by Dick

Comment: The goverment needs to do something, not doing anything is not going to make things better. from arundel/me by marc

Comment: This President acts like he's still on the campaign trail. If he was trying to address the economic concerns of Wall Street last evening, he didn't do it. He continued to push other agenda issues that had nothing to do with immediate economic recovery. It's a shame to have such a new, and young, President in office at such a time in history. from Maine by Doug

Comment: The speech seemed like a desprerate attempt for approvel from Augusta / Maine by Russell

Comment: I do not believe that this administration will help our country. They intend to grow government to make jobs instead of helping private business. We all know where government gets the money to pay for government jobs. It comes from the people!!!!! So how is that going to help?!!! MORE TAXES AS USUAL!! Wake up American before it is too late! from Winslow, ME by Debra

Comment: It's going to take A LOT of work on both sides of the aisle but I think we are on the right track to restoring consumer confidence. from Richmond by Stacey

Comment: Intentions are not a plan. I have yet to hear a plan. from Shapleigh, ME by Paul

Comment: Less only because of the Rep responce they will fight him all the way They should be pushed out of office befor this Country goes into Deperession from Lewiston by Brian

Comment: From everything he said there is no substance other than giveaway that were going to have to pay back from conway n.h. by paul

Comment: barack obama is a great rhetorical guy and by far one the greatest orators in our time but to think you can come to washington and change what has taken over two hundred years to create far is far from being realistic god bless him for his effort and tenacity from thomaston maine by william

Comment: Any time Mr. obama (the Choosen One) speaks I feel a hand in my wallet, taking what little money I have left. The only thing he will ever do is make matters far, far worse then they ever have been. WHAT A CROOK he is! from Alna by Rex

Comment: No. The way he is going about this ,he is writing more checks to cover ones that haved bounced. from sanford me by jay

Comment: Corruption, Lies, Socialism, Treason... That's all I see in the future. from Kennebunkport by Rick

Comment: It's nice to see a president that represents the people and not just the Wealthy. With the Mess Bush and the GOP left he as least gives us some hope for a future. from Freeport by Ben

Comment: If the Congress can put aside partisan politics and work for the country instead of "party interests" the problems can be solved. If the divide continues on party lines we should push for term limits and vote the bums out. from Lyman, ME by Michael

Comment: A lot of populist rhetoric, expansion of government, and huge spending. His plan to cut the deficit is not credible. He also lies when he says the stimulus bill had no pork. from Shapleigh by Dan

Comment: I feel more conferdent with the presdent after his speech he will do a geart job for us american people i know he won't let us down. from biddeford,me. 04005 by doris

Comment: Are you kidding me he's a joke and his plans to help America get back on track are too. People who have voted for him will see what I mean and hopefully learn how to vote better next time from PORTLAND by steve

Comment: I'm glad he's upfront and tells America what's going on. It's a gamble, but it is definitely a better plan than what the opposition has put forward. from Auburn by Dan

Comment: Finally, someone leading us in the right direction. We as a people need to be more responsible for ourselves and our actions. from Mexico by Anne

Comment: He has a fine grasp of the problems and good ideas on how to fix them. He is also very much in touch with what the common man is thinking. Some of the items that he proposed last night should receive bypartisan support. All seemed to be focused on people and not on special interest groups, who will probably fight to defend themselves. from Turner, ME by Garrick

Comment: No,every time President Obama speaks the stock market falls triple digits. His ideas sound much more like socialism to me. "Government, even in it's best state,is but a necessary evil,in it's worst state,an intolerable one" Thomas Paine,Common Sense 1776 from Biddeford, ME. by Rev.Brian

Comment: My confidence in Obama's fixes for the economy parallel the stock market's conficence in his administration-- none. from Cumberland Maine by Brian

Comment: I feel a lot more confident in the plan. I really like how Mr. President Obama explained everything in GREAT detail, How many other presidents would have done this. ZERO! I think. I respect Mr. Obama a lot for doing all of this. from Westbrook,Me. by Joseph

Comment: The people should have gotten the money.Too many families out there are suffering.Even if the government gave every tax paying american,(tax paying),out there one hundred thousand dollars. It would still be less than what obama is offering. Now we are going to be in more debt than we could ever imagine. And our kids will have it worse. And with all these bail outs, the people will still be in masive debt. This package doesnt help us at all. from Westbrook, ME by Frank

Comment: I am still skeptical, but hope for the best. I am registered as a republican, but they have had their chances for the last eight years. I will continue to give Hussein the benefit of doubt. I heard a lot about spending, but with no new taxes on anyone making fewer than 250k; where is this money coming from? I have a feeling that we are not hearing the rest of the story. Anyway, I still hope for the best. from Brunswick by Frustrated

Comment: i think he will do good he wants to help every one and give more foodstamps to the ones that need them from westbrook me

Comment: Heres an economic plan: STOP SPENDING NOW ! Layoff Congress and the Senate, then We can all start to "recover" from the Hype. from Hollis Me by Rick

Comment: Finally, someone with integrity and transparency. The Republicans reacted as I would expect. from Old Orchard Beach by M

Comment: I feel the most hopeful in a president in a long, long time... from Buxton, Maine by Laurie

Comment: The speech is irrelevant. The bill was passed before the speech. from Freeport by Pat

Comment: I think that last nights speech was amazing and I think it will be bringing hope to America, along with lots of jobs. Lets not lose faith, it has only been 26 day's! from Old Orchard Beach by Brandon

Comment: He claims the stimulus plan was past free of earmarks and we all know that is false. Bigger government, higher taxes, more layoffs from Cumberland, ME by John

Comment: I feel more confident. I think the stimulas will bring more jobs and also help a lot of people with needed health care. I think that things will take time but the long term effect of changes in government spending and such will be for the better. from Conway, NH by Elizabeth

Comment: Actually, neither more or less. I never had any confidence in Mr O'bama in the first place. The man has absolutely NO executive experience whatsoever. He's a very good pied piper. from S. Paris, Me. by Henry

Comment: Give em a chance. Can't be any worse than the last 8 years. from East Boothbay, Me by john

Comment: President Obama looked more to expanding the government, than to give power to the people. The president also made several money "saving" ideas that have already been on books for years. from Freeport by Emily

Comment: The citizens of this country has to feel 100% more confident since Bush administration. from Appleton, Me. by Everett

Comment: What he said, sounded great, and doable, that made me feel better, but then you start to think about what he said, and you wonder how are we ever going to pay for all of this???? from Randolph,me by Roger

Comment: No change. In my opinion much of the "stimulus" package is unnecessary and does not meet the original goal of "solving" the banking crisis and targeting specific areas that would benefit from an immediate influx of dollars. It is a grab bag of items that some people have wanted for many years and which gives government excessive, unwarranted, and possibly dangerous control over things that should remain in the private sector. I fear for the people who have tried to play by the rules and are themselves just barely hanging on but now will have additional burdens placed on them in the form of surcharges, taxes ("sin"), outright taxes or fees associated with implementing "alternative" energy policies. I believe we are headed down a road that will lead to less productivity overall. The policies of the new administration penalize people and businesses that provide real economic stimulus in favor of socialism. from Hebron/ME by Gino

Comment: I have NO confidence in this president. He has preached BIG government all along and won't be satisfied until we are all subservient, believe me!! from Bath by Carolyn

Comment: You don't need this poll, just look at the stock market performance since his speech last night, every time he announces a new spending initiative, and since he's been elected. It keeps going DOWN because there is increasingly less confidence that he knows what he is doing. from South Portland / ME by Jim

Comment: With Every Great Empire Comes Collapse...USSR, The Fall of Rome just to name a few. from Biddeford/ME by Rob

Comment: I think he has the best plan so far; of course Republicans are putting every possible road block in front of him. They would do well to just shut up, if they couldn't "fix things" in the 8 years they blundered along behind Bush, so get out of the way of Obama who is trying. by wilma

Comment: Great speaker, short on promises. When are the major networks going to report on the 25% decline in the market since he was elected.. the "no earmarks" he has stated again and again...8500 earmarks today... stimulus package a joke, thanks for the $13 a week and $7.50 next year. Why did nobody get to read the stimulous bill and it was still voted on? where is the transparencie? Bank bail outs? This will turn out to be the biggest failure in american history... why? because the networks will not tell the real story. He is not keeping his promises. I know this will never be posted because everyone is drinking the Obama kool-aid. Wake up people. Change we can believe in? Same old shit. I'll give congress whatever they want and they will support me. Joke... We are in BIG trouble and people need to pay attention and open thier eyes. from Buxton, Maine by Roger

Comment: I was very pleased with what I heard last night by President Obama. I'm also Tired of hearing Mainers and Americans being So Very Negative! Things aren't going to change overnight, People We have to Positve and believe in our leaders. This is a new administration and let's not Tear them apart and give them time to do their Jobs. Rome wasn't made in a Day and this Crisis won't be solved with the wave of a magic Wand or the snap of 2 fingers. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Tough Times Never Last. Tough People DO! Dr. Robert H. Schuller. from Lewiston, Maine by Randall

Comment: yes, i believe in President Obama. i think he will do wonders for our country. bush left this country in a mess, now president obama is trying to clean it up. And it's not going to happen over night. just one thing at a time. We will come back. from west paris, me by aj

Comment: Obama's far reaching vision pleases my heart to no end! from ME by J

Comment: The numbers do not add up from Portland by Cindy Lou

Comment: People who took out mortgages they could not afford should take the fall....not the people who pay their mortgages. Obama is on the road to socialism.... from Scarborough, ME by Cheryl
