98.25% Yes
1.39% No

Comment: How can banks just freeze your account without bothering to tell you? It's like they're trying to hide something! from Portland by Brian

Comment: Adsolutely! from Gray,Me by Ron

Comment: YES ; TOP PRIORITY OR THEY'LL GET SUED!! from Greene, ME by Wilhelm Scream

Comment: Of course they should. We're trusting them with our information, and if it gets compromised, they should tell us immediately. This is the 2nd time I've had to change cards because of this. from S. Berwick by Cathy

Comment: Yes we shouldn't have to hear about it on the news! from Turner by Laurie

Comment: Without a doubt!! They should also be required to monitor our accounts for a period of time to ensure there are no fraudulent charges, and if there are, to immediately make available the amount of the charges available to the account holder. After all, if their systems were secure, this would never happen. from Kennebunkport by Bud

Comment: We are putting our trust in Banks to keep our money "safe" that's one of the main reasons people put their money in banks instead of in between their mattresses, so yet they should be required to notify their customers of any compromises. from Lisbon by Jessica

Comment: I feel that this is happening way to often. I thought the purpose of a bank is to feel that our identity and our money is safe. from Kennebunk by Bethany

Comment: absolutely. I think it is their responsibility to notify customers of security breaches. from Sanford, ME by HA

Comment: Our laws and law enforcement is unable to keep up with technology. Banks are held at a higher duty to protect its customers. No wonder this country is crashing. No one is minding the store. from Bridgton/Maine by Joeanna

Comment: That should be an automatic thing they do anyway. from Augusta, ME by James

Comment: EVERY TIME ! from Avon by Randall

Comment: Obviously! from Westbrook by Jess

Comment: Yes they should, not everyone uses a computer for banking and wouldn't be able to check as easily. I want to know if anything happens to my account regardless whose fault it is. I don't think the banks should have to pay 100% of the costs to replace the cards. Why don't all the business's donate to a fund that would pay at least 50%? from Naples by Brenda

Comment: I strongly believe that failure to inform th customer of such breach of security should result in a hefty fine, to be placed in a victims compensation fund..In GOD we trust,,How about Banks? Hmmmm from Portland Maine by Dan

Comment: They better notify me if my card was compromised. Its not acceptable to not notify the client about any thing that is going on with their account. It is the banks duty to notify them. from Sanford by Sarah

Comment: Yes - That's why I bank at Kennebunk Savings Bank. Whenever there is an issue with my account or card they always notify me. My card was part of the Hannaford issue last year and Kennebunk Savings was GREAT It surprises me that all banks don't follow that same level of customer service. from Kennebunk by Tammy

Comment: Yes this is not the first time this has happened and I am not in the mood to wait hours to find out if my card was compromised and of course if it was I want to cancel it immediately, with bank fees so high the least they could do is to notify us! from South Portland by Beth

Comment: We put our trust in the banking systems and should expect notification of any thing happening to our cards. from Norridgewock, Maine by Debbie

Comment: They should not let customers worry if they have been affected or not. We have to constantly check our accounts, if you are able to go online. Some people do not have computers! from W. Farmington, Maine by David

Comment: I would want to know to update my info. They should let know of any suspicous activity. from Standish,Maine by Tammy

Comment: it would be a common courtesy for doing buisness with the bank!!! from south portland by chuck

Comment: Absolutely, Owner notification of suspected misuse or compromise of a credit/debit card should be a mandate. Busy folks just don't seem to take the time to know what is going on with their credit cards unless they follow up daily with their financial institutions. from Sanford by Don

Comment: Definitely they should not only be required to tell you but also to replace all cards and fraudulent charges at there cost from Lewiston, Maine by Brian

Comment: By all means!!!!!!!! We trust the banks to care for our funds, so that we may conduct monetory transactions. If they don't care; well then, maybe we'll find another bank who would love our business!!! from so. portland by GARY E.

Comment: All of the banks can do advertising on line so they could notify with e-mail from lincoln county, maine by robbie

Comment: When my Bank of America card was compromised from last year's Hannaford breach, my card was cancelled and I was not able to access my money without going into a branch. After I learned my card had been compromised, the bank told me my card would be re issued wihin 7-14 days. It sure is frustrating to lose your debit/atm card - it would be nice to have a reason why - and an alert to ensure the bank is protecting my privacy while they deal with the matter. from Auburn, Maine by Kelly

Comment: It's A no brainer. Anyone would want to know if their security was compromised. from Maine by Kayce

Comment: Absolutely. Who best can watch over our accounts then us. It may save the financial institutions money and give us an earlier heads up, instead of waiting 3-4 months!!! from Winthrop by Charle

Comment: Anything linked to any of my personal information is my right to know. If certain services or vendors are notorious for fraud, I would choose to avoid them whenever possible. from Springvale, ME by Sharon

Comment: Its the law in California and much of Europe, Maine should work on passing similar laws to protect consumers from Kittery, ME by R

Comment: If your patient information is breached by a health care provider or related business they are required to let you know of the breach by Federal law. Therefore, why would banks not be held to the same requirements? from Turner by Kelley

Comment: absolutely!!!!! from Wilton by Patti

Comment: It is not enough for TD to have Visa watch for irregular transactions. These crooks have sold these numbers and they could be used in 10 years, perhaps long after TD/Visa has dropped its watch on these cards. We need mandatory notification of card numbers compromised and the opportunity to have new credit cards or to have monitoring for the life of the account. from Portland Maine by Peter

Comment: They know more about this issue than we do, and I would rather they work through the problems and use their discretion on when to contact me. from Kennebunk by susan

Comment: it's bad went go to purchase fuel and your card come to say lost of stolen I work at gas station and you have tell person it stolen or lost, you get yell at from them and it all my fault and not the bank from windham Maine by kelly

Comment: Once your card number has been stolen even if it isn't used right away that card number is out there forever. It could be used a year from now & would you know it was related to this? When a card expires it is reissued with the same number so once the number is stolen it can be used anytime in the future. The only safe thing to do is get a new number. from Oakland,ME by Marilyn

Comment: I think the Banks should be held responsible for letting people know if they are compromised. from Lisbon Me by Josh

Comment: With the economy the way it is who has the opportunity to save any money at all, however, I do feel it is the responsible thing to do from Auburn ME by Scott

Comment: They do, just check your transactions on line. Look on the back of your card. Every time these hackers break in we find new ways to block and discover them. In a way they are doing us a favor. by Ann

Comment: I believe the bank should notify it's customers if their card was compromised. The bank should be obligated to sit down with each customer to go over their account statis. That way the bank and the customer can begin the process of finding out how much money might have been taken from their account. Also, the customer will know not to write out anymore checks or use their debit cards until a new one has been issued. Banking is supposed to be a safer better place to keep your money, but is it really anymore? from Acton, Me by Rebecca

Comment: We, as consumers, have every right to information regarding threats to our credit, no matter how significant or "insignificant". And creditors should be obligated by law to inform their customers within 24 hours of discovering a potential risk. from Portland by Rob

Theses Malicious Computer Crimes Can Destroy A Persons Identity, Life. My Bank Is TDbanknorth; They Take Care Of Me & Make Sure My Needs Are Met & That I'm a Satisfied Customer First & Foremost. from Portland,Maine by Ralph

Comment: IF WE CAN TRUST BANKS WITH OUR INFORMATION AND MONEY THEN WHO CAN WE TRUST. THEY SHOULD TAKE ALL MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT OUR INFORMATION IS SAFE AND IF IT HAS BEEN COMPROMISED THEN THEY SHOULD NOTIFY US AND LOCK THE ACCOUNT UNTIL WE TALK TO THEM from PORTLAND by J
