Who do you think won Wednesday night's U.S. Senate debate between Senator Susan Collins and her challenger, Congressman Tom Allen?
| 61.01% | Collins | |
| 38.33% | Allen |
Comment: Its time for a change. from Bangor, ME by Jeff
Comment: We need to change the US Senate so we will send Tom Allen! Bye Bye Susie! by Dave
Comment: Collins slammed Allen, also all allen did was slander Collins instead of anwering the questions like a real man!Allen has no clue. He needs to stay away of Maine! from topsham by crystal
Comment: Susan knows what she is doing from lyman me by barbara
Comment: Senator Collins is truely a Maine "gem". She has a heart for the people of Maine and works very hard to prove it. Tom Allen would serve the people of Maine better by remaining in congress and working with Sue Collins instead of against her. from Maine by Brian
Comment: Tom Allen is his own worst enemy with his negativity. Even those who agree with his politics are turned off by his methods and mannerisms.Whether he agrees with Susan or not, she is a respected Maine leader and she should be treated as such. from Scarborough, ME by Ami
Comment: Rep. Allen seemed to put the blame on Senator Collins on every question regardless of the actual voting record of Sen. Collins. He has been in Washington for the same amount of time and has not impressed me with his actions in the House. Senator Collins at least tried to answer the questions with her record and her actions and only used the blame game after Rep. Allen blamed her. from Lewiston, Maine by Tina
Comment: Way too much of the same old same old from Susan. She's done a reasonably good job, but she told us she would only serve two terms and her shelf date is expired by Penny
Comment: Tom Allen showed a command of the issues and expressed his ideas well. He will make a great US Senator representing Maine. from Portland by Linda
Comment: I find it quite hard to stomach a woman like Collins, who speaks to the general public as if we're all slow-learning preschool children. Couple that with the fact that she voted for every Bush tax cut for the rich, and was all for invading Iraq from the get-go, my vote goes for Allen. from Augusta/Maine by Ty
Comment: Senator Collins proved her ability to stand behind Mainers using Maine common sense. Her steadfast position to protect us at Bath Iron Works and our fellow shipbuilders at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is why she is our Senator. Tom voluntarily walked away from his position as vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee in 2003 leaving Maine Shipbuilders without a seat. In past congressional races I have voted for Tom believing he would fight for shipbuilding, healthcare, and lower taxes. With the ability to look back at how he has fulfilled his commitments in the House, I will be one registered Democrat who will proudly be voting for Senator Collins. Mr. Allen should have concentrated more on the voters that put him into office instead of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) for his out of state friends though nearly 80 percent of Mainers are against this bill. from West Bath Maine by Michael
Comment: Tom Allen has flip-flopped on most major issues. He DOES NOT support Bath Shipbuilders(just takes money stolen from us by the IAM)and has done nothing to help me have a secure employment. from Litchfield by John
Comment: Well, Tom seems to care more about the people that are hurting with this economy. I question how true to his word he will be! Prove it to us Tom Allen! from Norway, me by Annie
Comment: Sen. Collins has proven her abilities to hold her office and represents Maine's interests well. She stays focused and doesn't play politics. from Lewiston by Steve
Comment: Susan Collins is so out of touch with the average American. We can't afford four more years of the same old Bush economic policies. We need real leadership and Tom Allen is the only choice for real change. from South Portland by Darcy
Comment: It's a toss up....which is going to start helping the most with the taxes, single mothers, jobs, better schools, easier ways to start a business...... from Waterboro by M
Comment: I'm voting for Tom! from Boothbay, ME by Anne
Comment: Susan Collins' experience has been good for the citizens of Maine as far as jobs, business, and the economy. She is hard working, honest and sincere and I think she deserves to be re-elected. by An interested listener
Comment: Ifound COLLINS responses vague and questionable one example was her response on fraud and waste. she wrote the law 3 years after the fact from brunswick by joe
Comment: I'm not sure who to commit to, but Allen seemed calm yet strong from portland by hugh
Comment: Tom Allen's victory in the debate tonight was made clear by Susan Collins' visible uneasiness at finally being held accountable for her close association with the past 8 years of failed Bush policies and her willingness to lie about her record. from Cape Elizabeth, ME by Dave
Comment: we need real CHANGE and to do that we need a new democratic congress.. tom allen, who's been working faithfully for maine for the past 20 years, is just the right guy to do that... from Bath/ME by Derek
Comment: Susan Collins sounded like she had to defend herself more than talk about the future from Portland by Phil
Comment: Allen presented good new ideas on health care and the economy, while Collins stuck to George W. Bush's policies on almost everything. from Kennebunk, ME by Tom
Comment: This courageous, wonderful man has been slandered and slurred by the Collins Campaign enough that I will publicly support him. from Fryeburg by Christopher
Comment: As usual tom (DO NOTHING ALLEN)tries to get on the wagon after it has already left. His not getting his facts right, & his negative ads are getting really old!!! from Madison, ME. by John
Comment: Tom Allen better represents the needs and voice of Maine citizens. As an aside, I am really turned off by Susan Collins' ads. They are not only negative, they twist the truth. They seem like they are a product of Republican money and ideas "from away." from Cooper by Helena
Comment: Collins much more experince Allen should be in washington working from Falmouth by Edward
Comment: We need a change. from Waterville, ME by Dave
Comment: Congressman Allen is clearly the candidate with the ideas and thinking that will bring about the change we need in Washington. I think he will be a stronger advocate for Maine in the Senate than Collins. She supported Bush when it was politically safe, and now wants to insist that she has been a "moderate." Sorry Senator Collins, but two terms has been enough. from Portland, Maine by David
Comment: Go Tom Go! from Falmouth, ME by Will
Comment: Suzie from Dresden by Frank
Comment: Allen is a one note band. Bush bad blah, blah blah from Portland by Bo
Comment: Simply he's been against the war from the start and has maintained that opposition from the start, and has not deviated from it. from Biddeford by Ricky
Comment: Senator Collins won. Allen could only keep blaming Bush to sawy attention from his own poor record for the last 12 years in Washington. We don't need anymore of his agenda. Keep Susan, dump Tom! from Westbrook by Peter
Comment: Susan has been a Champion for Maines and US Citizans alike. She is savy and has had a very important role in the Senate and is well respected among her piers. It would be detramental to lose her in that position in what seems to be a Democratic overhaul on the Capital. We need balance in the Senate and Susan is the one. from Belgrade by Karen
Comment: Collins rules! from Hollis Maine by harry
Comment: Congressman Tom Allen is more articulate in his comments and better spoken but spent a good portion of his time trying to discredit Sen. Collins. However, I believe Senator Collins truly is more concerned for the citizens of Maine and is fighting everyday for our best interest. She is one of us, she is sincere, and cares what is happening here in Maine and is doing her best working through the bureaucracy. I believe she has a better understanding of what is happening to Maine citizens that are struggling and trying to put heating oil in their homes this season. Her record speaks well of her actions and we should send her back to Wahington to represent us. from Winthrop, Maine by Normand
Comment: Tom carries my concerns with him... even in the face of the status quo forces of Bush and McCain! from ME by Casey
Comment: hands down...she knows the real answers from woolwich, me by dennis
Comment: I feel she took it,by a small margin. from Saco by Joseph
Comment: We need a real change in our senate from Milo/Maine by Donald
Comment: isnt it obvious? from portland by narrissa
Comment: We need to get her out of office. It's about time we have someone more competent than Susan to vote for. from Scarborough by Michelle
Comment: Tom was more thoughtful and articulate, and will do a better job for Maine. from East Machias, ME by Tom
Comment: Allen will lose the Senate Seat. He will than run for Governor out spending anyone that runs against him to get in office. He needs to find a job in the private sector to see what it's really like. from Augusta Maine by Elery
Comment: Collins..........hands down! She has shown experience and genuine concern for the people of Maine! from Lisbon by Doris
Comment: collins is more qualified! from ME by Jack
Comment: While Susan looks Senatorial, her answers were not in line from a policy perspective with what Maine and the Nation needs. from Arrowsic by Eloise
Comment: Collins remained as usual, very poised and knowledgeable. Even Biden recently could find little to fault her on. I am impressed how she represents all of Maine - not just the South. from Bridgton, Me by Nancy
Comment: Allen expose the truth about Collins record. She has the blood of American young soldiers in her hands for following in lock step the tragic policies of George Bush. I do not wish to see the loss of life of my own nephews in the Arm Forces in the future because of this dangerous Senator. from Lewiston by Dr.Luzma
Comment: Collins has had her turn and proven herself by her devout and blind following of George Bush and his ruinous policies.Allen is a man of greater integrity, honesty and that is just what this nation and our state needs right now. GO ALLEN! from Oxford, ME by Wendell
Comment: I don't know how much Change Tom offers, but I've seen and heard the lady in the red suit's song and dance for too long. from Auburn by Chris
Comment: I voted for Allen last time but after watching the debate I am definately am voting Collins this year. from Maine by Alana
Comment: Collins, Collins, Collins! from Maine by Duane
Comment: Susan Collins has always been there for the people of Maine. from Poland, ME by Robert
Comment: Susan Collins clearly won this debate and it's even clearer who has worked, and will continue to work, hard for the people of Maine. from Bethel by Charlotte
Comment: Sen. Collins supports small businesses in Maine. Most importantly supports emergency reponders in this Great State! from Camden, Maine by Phil
Comment: They have both held office for what 12 years, but only Susan has any real accomplishment This is a no brainer Susan all the way!!! by j
Comment: TOM ALLEN talks alot, but does little for Maine people,he votes the party line 98% of the time, and attempts to please party leadership, and doesn't give a hoot about Maine people. from Wells,ME. by Ron
Comment: The point is not about winning debates, it is integrity in leadership that matters. Tom Allen has a grace and commitment to serving the highest good and real needs of working families. He would never vote in favor of torture and he would never allow pharmaceautical companies to pay him masses of money to NOT vote for healthcare for Maine and the nation. Susan Collins has lost her integrity somewhere in her meanderings in Washington, DC and it is time for a change and that change will come with folks like Tom Allen. from Rockland, Maine by Zoe
Comment: Allen represents a chance for change on a national scale. Politics may be local but its effects resonate globally. from Bangor, ME by Cliff
Comment: Unfortunately, I thought Susan Collins did well and stayed on track. I wish Tom Allen would've stepped up his game plan. from Saco, Maine by Kristine
Comment: Susan Collins is part of a failed Republicain Administration. She backs a man that will go down in American history as the worst President and Administator. It's now time to move forward and make a change. from Fairfield Me by Scott
Comment: he brings up good points regarding Mainers needing a change. Things havent really worked out thus far well have they? from Nobleboro, ME by Susan
Comment: Abraham Lincoln said if you want to catch flies use honey not gall, Susan Collins supports our troops and is sincere she also cares about our nation and state of Maine. Our military is the worlds finest the troops are dedicated to their work and are all volunteers (not drafted)I am a vitnam era US Navy veteran even though most of us at the time didn't approve of that terrible conflict we were highly trained and dedicated to our mission. We should never surrender to the terrorists. from South Portland by Steven
Comment: Its time for a change and get a filibuster proof congress.I am a Republican and believe its time to give up a few things I like politically to stop the gridlock from Augusta by jim

Comment: she rockkks! from Bangor by Beverly
