Ben Yap, homeowner: "When I got here last night and saw it flat, it definitely sunk in."
Ben Yap is dealing with the reality of losing his home and his dog in the fire. Burnt piles of rubble are all that is left of his belongings and the first home he's ever owned. Yap was visiting his son in Connecticut when he got the bad news.
Yap: My brother called me when I was on my way back and said my house was on fire. Get up here quick."
By the time firefighters arrived, Yap's home was fully engulfed in flames. It was the winds, in excess of 30-miles per hour, that prevented them from saving yap's home.
Chief Norman St. Pierre, West Paris Fire Dept.: We couldn't get in proximity of the house to fight the fire, except from the other sides and like i said with the wind. It made it awful to try and get this fire out."
Investigators say the cause of this fire is still under investigation and they don't expect the Fire Marshall to make it to the scene until Tuesday. As far as the homeowner goes, he says he's planning to rebuild in the same location."
So for Yap, it's a time for picking up the pieces and moving forward after his loss. He's hoping some belongings may be salvageable. He's also grateful it wasn't much worse.
