Georgetown fire chief Albert Beardsley said the team was incredibly lucky the bus did not hit another vehicle while crossing four lanes of traffic. "Absolutely a miracle this time a night 8:30 in the evening you have got
a lot of traffic on I-95, how that bus missed everybody is just amazing," said Beardsley. The fire chief said the members of the team are okay. "We had a lot of them that were just banged around a lot, but we
transported them and a lot of them were put on back boards as a
precaution due to the type of accident."
State Police Major Arthur Sugrue said coach Barron saw the driver slump over and tried to help. "His initial report to the EMTs that showed up were that he noticed the driver slumped over the wheel, took him a couple of seconds to realize what was happening, he got up out of his seat, tried to get control of the bus, but before he could do that, it went into the median, through the snow, across the highway and then over the embankment into the trees," said Major Sugrue.
The team was on its way to Boston University to play their final regular season game scheduled for tonight.
