When winter rolls around, one thing's for certain, Malcolm and Mona Ridley will lose power during a strong storm.
Mona Ridley: "We lose it so often here. It's hard."
They've been living on East Pond Road in Nobleboro for more than 60 years. They say the older they get, the harder it is to cope with the cold.
Mona Ridley: "We have always felt we are one of the last ones to get power back. All around us, but never on this road."
On Thursday, strong winds knocked out their electricity once again. Their son hooked up a generator to keep Mona's oxygen tank running, but as for when the lights will be turned back on, they're not sure.
Malcolm Ridley: "I don't know that one. But, we'll have to put up with it until it comes on."
Mona Ridley: "Central Maine has got me down as being a needy person for medicine. They've called and checked on me twice. I can't complain, really I can't. It's just such a damn nuisance not to have power."
While the generator has kept electricity running for things like the oxygen tanks and the stove for the Ridley's, one thing they say they're still without is the dryer. That's why they've been forced to hang clothes up here on the line in 30 degree weather.
A tough break in the cold temps, but Malcolm and Mona say they're tough because they've got decades of practice.
Mona Ridley: "We're Mainiacs, right through and through."
