James Pak, 74, is charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of his tenants, 19-year-old Derrick Thompson and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Alivia Welch. Pak appeared in court Monday in Alfred.
Hours later, in Biddeford, family and friends gathered at Rotary Park for a vigil. Truck after truck showed up to "burn rubber" - something Thompson loved to do in his own truck.
Thompson's sister, Kari Henderson, organized the vigil on facebook, which soon spread word-of-mouth, and a large crowd formed.
Pak's next court appearance will be for a bail hearing, but no date has been set.
