David Kwiatkowski waived his right to a detention hearing in federal court. Prosecutors say he is a "serial infector" who used his position as a medical technician to pass hepatitis C to at least 31 patients at Exeter Hospital's cardiac cath lab.
He's accused of injecting himself with painkillers meant for the patients, then re-using the syringes. Eight other states may be involved, based on Kwiatkowski's work history.
Right now, Kwiatkowski is facing two charges but the U.S. attorney says more are likely. Hepatitis C is considered to be among the most serious of hepatitis viruses, and is typically not detected until the patient gets liver damage.
