State Police say the driver couldn't slow down quick enough when traffic in front of him slowed down near mile 12 in Cumberland Friday around 3:40 p.m.
Trooper Jessica Shorey tells News 13 the driver steered his tractor trailer truck into the median to avoid a crash, in part, because he had faulty brakes.
The crash backed up traffic on the northbound side for miles, and State Police say there were five additional crashes as a result, mostly fender-benders. No one was hurt.
The driver was summonsed for having an overweight tractor trailer.
The scene was cleared later in the evening.
