Sen. Collins married Thomas Daffron Saturday morning in Caribou, Collins' hometown. Daffron is the chief operating officer of Jefferson Consulting group, a political consulting firm in Washington D.C.
According to a news release, Collins' father walked her down the aisle. Her sisters served as a bridesmaid and matron of honor. About 50 people attending the ceremony at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church.
Steve Abbott, Collins' former long-time chief of staff and current UMaine athletic director, was Daffron's best man.
Daffron previously served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Senators William Cohen, Fred Thompson, and Lisa Murkowski, and was the national campaign manager for Elizabeth Dole's 2000 presidential campaign. He is also former senior vice-president/chief operating officer of the Baltimore Orioles.
Sen. Olympia Snowe and former Governor John McKernan congratulated Collins and Daffron.
"We couldn't be more pleased and thrilled for both Susan and Tom at this exciting moment in their lives. Their common interests and love of Maine and politics have brought them together over the years, and will undoubtedly continue to enrich and strengthen their union for years to come. Today we celebrate their love for one another, and we wish Susan and Tom the very best as they enter married life together."
This is the first marriage for the 59-year-old Collins, who was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996, and the second for Daffron.
