One local business that is really feeling the pinch is the Regional Transportation Program, or RTP. It's a program that helps elderly and disabled people get around, and depends on volunteer drivers.
Gas prices impact almost everyone and everything we do. And we are seeing some of the highest gas price in a while.
The rising gas prices is costing RTP volunteer drivers more and more at the gas pump. Between fuel prices, oil changes and regular maintenance of vehicles, out of pocket expenses are starting to kick in. Losing volunteers means losing rides and services provided by a program in the business of helping those who need transportation.
There is good news for RTP. They were anticipating higher gas prices so they locked down a contract for gas prices which has them paying about $3.45 a gallon for the bus service it provides. But despite that, they're probably going as much as $35,000 over their gas budget.
