Petrovek was arrested and charged with OUI after police say he failed a field sobriety test just after getting his jeep stuck on the median at the corner of Spring and Center Streets near the Pirates' home arena. Police say Petrovek had a blood alcohol level of .25, more than three time the legal limit. It happened in the middle of the night, at about 1 a.m.
We reached out to Petrovek and the Pirates, they didn't want to comment but they did issue this statement saying: “The Portland Pirates want you to know that Brian regrets his lack of discipline and poor judgment which led to his arrest for OUI early Wednesday morning. Brian would like the community to know that he made a mistake and hopes that the people reading and watching these news reports learn from his experience and make better choices. He accepts that he made a poor decision and hopes that everyone refrains from drinking and driving during this holiday season.”
Petrovek has been part owner of the team for almost 13 years.
