And Maine's scallop season begins Monday and scallopers are dealing with some changes. New regulations divide the state into three zones and establish a rotational management system similar to crop rotation on land.
Regulators say the goal is to give fishermen flexibility while rebuilding the scallop population. Fishermen say they're willing to give it a try if it means better harvests down the road. The scallop population in the past decade has been a fraction of what it was in the 80s and 90s. The season started Sunday and lasts through March.
