Luke Joy is a senior nose tackle, part of the punishing Marshwood defense getting ready for Saturday's state finals. Like many in this senior class, Luke's been playing football since middle school. He's also deaf...speaking through interpreter Alyssa Gagnon.
Defensive plays are often called using hand signals. With Luke's help, the Hawks created signs the whole team understands. Luke's dad, Mike Joy, is an assistant coach on the team. And his teammates are catching on, too.
Despite not having the ability to hear, Luke Joy still has his eyes on the prize, a state championship. In South Berwick, Luke and the Marshwood Hawks will battle Mount Blue this Saturday for the class b state title.
