In a photo, 4-year-old Alice in the purple and her sister Eliza are opening the door for a fairy godmother and Cinderella. The characters stopped by Alice's class at Longfellow Elementary School in Portland Friday as the kick-off to her Make a Wish adventure, which includes a trip to Disney World in Orlando.
When she was three and a half, doctors discovered Alice had neuroblastoma. That's a childhood tumor in the nervous system outside of the brain. It's been a tough year of treatments for Alice, including six rounds of chemo, two surgeries and stem cell transplant radiation. Her sister stayed by her side through it all. Their mother is so happy the girls have this trip to look forward to.
Alice finished her treatments in December and is currently disease free. She and her family leave in two weeks from today for their Disney adventure, which also includes checking out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios, a dream vacation for a tough little girl and her family.
