As the Kansas City Chiefs struggle to comprehend the actions of one of their players, the team pulls off a win against the Carolina Panthers at home.
Fans showed up to tailgate this morning, trying to move forward, a little more than 24-hours after former UMaine Black Bear, Jovan Belcher, murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself.
On Saturday, Belcher killed his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, at their home on Kansas City's east side. Minutes later, Belcher then drove five miles to the team's training complex and turned the gun on himself.
In New York, friends and family held a tribute for Belcher. Neighbors say the linebacker was a role model and someone they looked up to.
The Chairman of the Kansas City Chiefs, in a statement, called this, "an incredibly difficult 24 hours for our family."
Before kickoff, the crowd was asked to observe a moment of silence for domestic violence victims and their families. There was no mention of Belcher.
Belcher and his girlfriend leave behind a 3-month-old daughter.
Belcher was 25.
