This woman says it all started when her husband became very controlling, jealous and verbally abusive. She says she endured this for years for the sake of their children. Then one night, she'd had enough. Her husband then kept her a prisoner in her own home for three days. He finally let her leave the home for a planned get together. She told her friends what had happened, and her friends took her to Cumberland County's Family Crisis Services.
Her husband ended up going to jail. But when he got out, she says he manipulated and wormed his way back into the house. She has good reason to be afraid, what with 26 domestic violence murders here in Maine in just the last two and a half years.
If you or someone you know needs to talk about this problem in southern Maine call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-866-834-4357.
