13 On Your Side: Bogus letters to Maine corporations
News 13 is On Your Side with a warning about a bogus letter aimed at Maine corporations. The letters from Corporate Records Services asking for corporate directors' names, addresses and $125 did not come from the State Bureau of Corporations like they claim.
The secretary of state's office says the letters come in a green envelope and look official. And often they're sent to attorneys who are clerks for corporations. The secretary of state's office says it's a scam and not to send any money or information.
Any official notice from the secretary of state's office will contain the Maine state seal, the secretary of state's name and contact information.
