13 On Your Side: Phony Medicare calls

News 13 is On Your Side with a warning about phony Medicare calls.

Maine attorney general Janet Mills is warning consumers about the calls from a person claiming to represent Medicare. The caller says Medicare is issuing a new card and asks for their Medicare number, the name of their financial institution and account numbers.

Consumers should check their Medicare statements a look for anything questionable. They should also notify their financial institution if they believe their information has been compromised. Mills says Mainers can protect themselves by never giving out personal information over the phone.13 On Your Side: Phony Medicare calls
