Man involved in Saco police standoff is dead
UPDATED: 3:10 AM EDT
SACO (WGME) -- Police tell CBS 13 the man involved in a police standoff and house fire in Saco is dead.
Police say a man barricaded himself inside a home at 16 Hillview Avenue in Saco Saturday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m. neighbors reported hearing two gunshots back to back. Police responded a short time later. A SWAT team surrounded the home.
When police arrived, there was smoke coming from the home. Hours later, around 6:30 p.m. it was engulfed in flames. As of 7:40 p.m. the fire was almost under control.
The home is near a middle school with many families and children in the neighborhood. Homes in that area have been evacuated.
Investigators say they have responded to that home on domestic calls at least three times in the last several weeks.
The man's wife was not home at the time of the standoff or the fire.
