State Police charge 20-year-old with murder of Nichole Cable
UPDATED: 7:24 PM EDT
GLENBURN (WGME) -- Police say it's a tragic and disturbing end to a desperate search for a missing 15-year-old girl from Glenburn.
Investigators found the body of Nichole Cable Monday night, and on Tuesday, they announcing the arrest of Kyle Dube who is now charged with killing her. "We charged Kyle Dube who is 20 years old, of Orono, with murder in connection with this case," says Lt. Chris Coleman of the Maine State Police.
Police say Dube killed 15-year-old Nichole Cable, she had been missing since Mother's Day.
One of Cable's best friends, Tyler-Ann Harris, sat in on the news conference announcing Dube's arrest. She says, "I've been really scared for her. I'm just relieved she's not suffering when I found out this morning, but all week is just been really long."
Harris says Dube and Cable had known each other for two months, "He would run to her rescue if he needed to. I never would've thought that he would've actually hurt her."
Maine Wardens found what they believe is Cable's body Monday night in the wooded area off route 43 in Old Town. "At about 930 pm, a game warden and his dog located a female body in the woods," says Lt. Kevin Adam of the Maine Warden Service.
The discovery brought an end to a week-long search that brought hundreds of people together all looking for Nicole. Dube even shared her missing poster on his Facebook page days later.
Investigators say Dube turned himself in on May 17 to serve a sentence on an unrelated traffic charge. According to an article in the Bangor Daily News, he led police on a high-speed chase last year that ultimately ended with his motorcycle hitting a police car. Investigators won't say how turning himself in led to his murder arrest.
The medical examiner's office hasn't returned our call about cause of death for Nichole Cable.
