Sanford City Council denies permission for car wash fundraiser featuring escorts
UPDATED: 11:39 PM EDT
SANFORD (WGME) -- The Sanford City Council voted to deny a permit for a local salon operator who wanted to put on a charity car wash featuring employees from an escort service.
Concerns were raised over Alicia Rowe's plan to use professional strippers and escorts to wash cars this weekend. Money would be raised for the York County Children's Center.
In denying the permit, councilors said there is not enough time to address the safety concerns associated with the proposal.
Rowe needed a permit from the city because the parking lot that would be used for the car wash is city property. Rowe has already invited hundreds of people to take part in the car wash, and is now trying to find private property on which to hold it.
